PRO CARTON PUBLISHED THE SECOND EUROPEAN CONSUMER PACKAGING PERCEPTIONS STUDY

08-07-2021

A major independent research report has shown that, despite the pressures of COVID-19, environmental issues are very much at the forefront of consumers’ thinking.

The study, conducted independently by Perspectus Global and commissioned by Pro Carton, was designed to assess consumers’ views on different packaging and environmental issues and how this may have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unsurprisingly, when people were asked what is the biggest issues we face today, Coronavirus came out on top. Climate change was rated the second most important issue. Indeed, more than half (58%) of those surveyed said they were now recycling more than they were a year ago and over half had reduced the number of products packed in plastic that they buy.

Moreover, when asked for a preference if the same product was available in plastic or cartonboard, four out of five opted for the paper-based format and over three quarters of all consumers would be prepared to pay more for more environmentally friendly packaging.
