EUROPEAN WEEK FOR WASTE REDUCTION: RDM GROUP’S COMMITMENT TO TURNING WASTE INTO OPPORTUNITY

19-11-2024

This week, from November 18th to 26th, we celebrate The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), an initiative to raise awareness about waste reduction across Europe. It encourages a variety of stakeholders to actively engage in efforts to minimize waste production.

RDM Group, a European leader in the production of recycled cartonboard, has built its business model on a core principle that aligns perfectly with the goals of the EWWR: seeing waste as an opportunity.

During Recycling Week, Michele Bianchi, CEO of RDM Group and President of ProCarton, was interviewed by Chiara Placenti, journalist of RadioInBlu, to discuss how the sector, and specifically RDM Group, is committed to promoting conscious and responsible recycling.

The Group’s commitment to sustainability is at the heart of its operations, and it views the recycling process as a way to create value and reduce environmental impact. By recycling paper-based materials into high-quality products, RDM Group contributes significantly to the circular economy, transforming what would otherwise be discarded into a valuable resource.

During the EWWR, the focus is placed on how every individual and organization can play a role in reducing waste, and how creative solutions can be implemented to prevent waste from ever being produced. RDM Group’s vision is a perfect example of this ethos. Through the production of recycled cartonboard, RDM not only helps to reduce waste but also works to close the loop on resource use, ensuring that paper materials are reused and repurposed as much as possible.

For RDM Group, the European Week for Waste Reduction is an opportunity to showcase how a circular approach to business can lead to positive environmental and economic outcomes. The company’s dedication to turning waste into opportunity serves as a model for others in the industry, demonstrating that waste is not something to be discarded, but rather something to be reimagined.

The EWWR campaign also highlights the importance of awareness-raising actions, which encourage everyone—whether at home, at work, or in public spaces—to take responsibility for their consumption and waste habits. With regulations like the EU Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC) pushing member states to adopt sustainable waste management strategies, initiatives like the EWWR play a crucial role in guiding citizens and businesses towards more sustainable practices.
