Embracing Our Place in the Circular Economy

As a recycled cartonboard company, RDM Group plays an essential part in the circular economy, and our business model is built on circular principles to replace a system of wasted resources with a cycle of regenerative resources and circulating materials.

We demonstrate these efforts through initiatives and actions we have implemented in recent years, which are aligned with our long-term ESG goals.

The recyclability of materials used for packaging is crucial for developing a closed-loop production and consumption model. Upstream, the fiber-based raw materials we use come from 95% paper and cartonboard for recycling. These are purchased from the industrial and commercial sectors and from city collections. This is supplemented by a limited amount of FSC®/PEFC-certified and/or controlled virgin fiber pulp, which is necessary for some specific physical and mechanical characteristics of the board. Fiber-based packaging material can be recycled at least 25 times without losing its mechanical or structural integrity, thus giving recycled products a leading role in the transition of the whole sector toward increased sustainability and circularity.

We view our impact in a more comprehensive way, addressing issues up and downstream to make our value chain more circular. This means going beyond simply working with recycled materials and creating recyclable products by improving areas of our production system such as water use and waste recovery. We reuse water in multiple production cycles and send 83% of our waster for recovery.
