RDM GROUP PUBLISHES ITS 2023 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

24-04-2024

RDM Group, European leading manufacturer of recycled cartonboard, published its 2023 Sustainability Report, a confirmation to the Group’s commitment to value creation for its main stakeholders through its business model.

Sustainability, circular economy, health and safety are the key pillars that stand behind it, along with a strong focus on people, to whom the same Report is dedicated. Indeed, it is thanks to them that the Group has been successful in making significant progress on the route to achieving the ambitious targets of its 2020-2030 Sustainability Plan.

A special emphasis is placed on the 3 KPIs related to the Sustainability-Linked Bond issued by RDM Group in 2021. In this regard, we would like to point out:

  • a 15% drop in wastewater discharge intensity compared to 2020. The goal to be achieved by 2030 is a 20% reduction;
  • the achievement of 83% as a proportion of solid waste sent for recovery. In this case, the target to be reached is 90%;
  • an 1% rise in carbon intensity compared to 2020, which is unfortunately the result of fluctuations and changes in the market.

The link between sustainability and finance has clearly strengthened the synergies between the two areas, while promoting a change – cultural and not only – within the Group. In 2023, indeed, it broadened its boundaries, not only geographically, by acquiring the mill of Fiskeby, Sweden, thus becoming the leading recycled cardboard producer in Europe. Given its position as market leader, the Group is increasingly focusing on innovation, along its whole value chain.

This is widely reflected in the Report, which consists of four macro-sections.

The first one is Circularity. RDM Group’s business model rests on circular economy principles, which are based on renewable resources and recyclable materials.

The second is the Environment, namely Energy and Emissions. As the paper industry is a very energy-intensive sector, RDM Group’s policy is to make continuous investments to improve the efficiency of its plants and production overall.

On the third macro-section, People, it is worth highlighting that 2023 was a very good year in terms of health and safety, with the lowest accident frequency rate ever.

With a view to being a sustainable company, RDM Group has published for the first time its Diversity & Inclusion Policy, as well as its Human Rights Policy, bearing witness to the Group’s focus on people.

Finally, with regard to Governance, in 2023, RDM Group was awarded the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) gold medal by EcoVadis, one of the world’s leading ESG rating, thus proving its commitment to responsible business practices.
